Nagaon faces shortage of LPG cylinders
NAGAON, March 21: Short supply of Indane gas cylinders from Bongaigaon and North Guwahati coupled with random use of domestic cylinders for commercial consumption has made the availability of gas cylinders scarce in Nagaon. There are about 5000 business establishments including hotels, restaurants, jewelleries etc using indane as the fuel but surprisingly, only 90 commercial connections have been registered in the town. This has resulted in acute shortage of cylinders for the commoners. [S]
Acute scarcity of potable water hits Tangla town
TANGLA, March 23: A major part of Tangla town has been deprived of drinking water for several months together for the irresponsible and negligent attitude of the Tangla Town Committee. The Chitranagar water supply scheme of the town committee has remained inoperative, as majority of machinery parts have been totally damaged and reportedly out of order. [S]

BADULIPAR, March 25: The people of the greater tribal area of Dusutimukh, Uppertermera and Mohuramukh under Bokakhat sub-division are facing an acute problem of scarcity of potable water. The people have been compelled to use water from ponds and beels, which is not fit for drinking. [S]
GORESWAR, March 30: The Goreswar pure drinking water supply plant, which was set up near the SDC office here with a capacity of 1,10,000 litre, has become a white elephant. According to sources, requisite quantities of bleaching powder, sand and stone have not been supplied to the plant for over a year now. [AT]
Villagers along Indo-Bhutan border leading a miserable life PATHSALA, April 25: Many villagers on the northern part of Nalbari and Barpeta districts along the Indo-Bhutan border are still leading a miserable life, without any modern amenities. The main problem of these people is the lack of drinking water. Although there are a few wells, these fail to cater to the needs of the people who are heavily dependent on river water to maintain their daily activities. Many villagers have to walk four to five km to collect drinking water, and often they spend two to three weeks without taking a bath or washing their clothes. [S]

It was prepared with a time frame of 30 years for implementation in three phases and after two years' meticulous study of the related problems and topographical features of Guwahati. 63 LPG cylinders seized, six apprehended
GUWAHATI, Aug 2: The Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offence (BIEO) in a sudden operation arrested six persons in Baihata Chariali on Tuesday for their involvement in illegal LPG cylinder business. According to official sources, a group of BIEO personnel raided the Arun Hotel located at Baihata Chariali, arrested the persons and seized 63 LPG cylinders from the hotel. [AT]
Racket in LPG pilferage busted
GUWAHATI, Aug 29: Authorities of the bottling plants of LPG in the State have been alerted that a section of truck drivers and other staff engaged in ferrying LPG cylinders are involved in pilfering specially-made seals in cylinders for use in empty cylinders, which are filled up by pilfering the LPG from fresh cylinders en route to the agencies. This alert was issued following the busting of a racket involved in pilfering LPG from freshly-filled cylinders despatched from various bottling plants and using it to fill empty cylinders through an improvised method by sleuths of the Bureau of Investigation, Economic Offences (BIEO) at Baihata Chariali recently.
